Last day of clinic!

This semester has flown by!!! Today went really well. I did my very last PE today so everything is passed off. I also have plenty of extra quads which is great! I only wish more of them transfered over to next semester. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to go about doing clinic next semester. Part of me wants to just go board hunting and do screenings until I find the mockboard and board pts. I need...but I feel bad making so many people wait to get their teeth cleaned. What to do??? I guess I'll figure it out as I go. One more semester!

Lab

Last week went really well. We had lab in the morning and it was fun to learn how to transfer people from a wheelchair to the dental chair. We also got to take turns pushing eachother around in the wheelchairs down the hall. It was pretty fun and sooo relaxing. Unfortunately after such an easy morning I was in no mood to do any work in the afternoon. It did end up going really well though. I was able to complete 3 more quads of a 3 and 1 of a 2, so that was good!

Fabulous!!!

Today was fabulous! Everything went soooo smooth. I finished 8 more quads, and 4 PEs...plus some x-rays. It was great! Both of my patients were really good too. :) The only problem is I still need to pass off the blood glucose PE...hopefully someone will let me do it on them soon!

Finishing up!

Last Tuesday I saw my two 1A pts. that I needed. They were the cutest little girls! (4 and 5 years old.) It was a lot of fun! They had questions about everything and were soooo excited to get their teeth cleaned. Good job to their parents for helping out with that! They did such a good job, especially when I was taking their x-rays. That can be really hard for kids sometimes...especially since their mouths are so small. Even adults have a hard time biting down all the way with film in their mouths. They were great!

I was lucky to have a patient in the morning who really wanted me to take a full mouth set of x-rays, so that was awesome! (I really needed more PAs.) It looks like I have basically all the requirements done that I need. Just a few more PAs and the blood glucose PE. Maybe I'll get to do those this coming Tuesday. :)

3 Patients!!!

I had 3 patients today! Yea!!! I was only finishing up 2 of them in the morning and then I had a patient in the afternoon. It was great! A total of 9 quads today! My dad got to come in too! :) I was so happy! I love having my family come in! I almost have all the requirements I need, including the PEs. Things are looking good!

2 Patients

Last Tuesday we had a lab in the morning, and it was soooo relaxing! It was great! Now we have more PEs we can pass off too...since we learned how to do more of them. :) The afternoon was another story though. I was finishing a class 3 patient and her husband was going to come in if I ended up getting done with her cleaning early. We were going to call and let him know if he should come in or not. Well...he decided to just come and stay after he dropped her off. Then I felt really pressured to get him in and get his OD done. It all worked out ok, but I felt kind of crunched because of how long it took me to finish her. It probably didn't help that I had somewhere to be right after clinic, so I was feeling pressured by that too. Oh well. Everything ended up being OK. Finishing her cleaning completed all my exams that I needed, and I did 3 PEs. :) Really not too bad...just a little crunched on time.

Mock Board #1

I passed my first mock board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was soooo excited! It was a little crazy at first because of various things out of my control and my patient ended up being about a half an hour late. She did her best to get there though and I'm really glad she made it! I knew my patient would qualify, but I also knew it would be difficult because I had already cleaned one of her quads. I'm really glad I had a heads up about what it was like cleaning her teeth before I got to the mock board because it helped me understand how thourough I would really have to be and how hard I would have to work. It's interesting how different patient's calculus can be. No one really understands what I'm saying until they've had a patient who's caluculs just won't come off. Anyway, it all went very well! Passing this mock board has helped me feel a little bit better about boards, but of course I'm still really nervous for that to come. It will be a lot more stressful so hopefully my nerves won't take over and I'll be OK. I'm glad I have a few more months to practice before I have to do the real thing!

Yesterday was great! I felt like I got a lot accomplished and everything went really well. I finished my morning pt. and have two class III quads left on my afternoon pt. I did my first Eagle Soft chart, took x-rays, did an exam, and 2PE's! It was a great! I'm scheduled out till the end of the semester, so I don't have to worry about finding anymore pts. I just have to find room for all of them. :)

What a day!

Tuesday was crazy, and I'm soooooo glad it's over. It was just one of those days where I worked really hard but didn't feel like I got much accomplished. There were various things that affected that, but it's over now and that's all that matters! :) I was able to take my first pano of the year, so that made me happy. Yea!!! Only 4 more this semester!

Injections!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last Friday we got to give our first 4 injections! I was so excited, and kind of nervous. The weird thing was, when I got into the clinic I wasn't nervous anymore. I would say I was cautious though because I didn't want to hurt Meagan any more than I had to. I wanted to make sure I did it right, and I think it went really well. Meagan was a great partner and she did a really good job! As soon as I was done, I wanted to give all the injections one more time so I could make sure I remembered everything. I guess I'll have to wait until next week.

Confidence and Humility :)

Today was soooo good! This morning started out great! I did my first class 3 exam and one quad was even a class 4...and I finished everything with no mistakes! I was soooo happy! Then, to top it off, I found a great mock board patient this afternoon! Life couldn't be getting any better at that point. I kind of ran out of time after I got everything figured out with my patient for the mock board day, so I only had a little while to try to do one quad. Well, after a wonderful morning I thought of course that quad would go great. It was definitely a class 4 quad. (Calculus and deep pockets gallor.) I new I didn't feel real great when I called for my scale check, but I was out of time so I figured I had to. Let's just say it didn't turn out as great as it did earlier. Oh well...I'm really happy with how things went today. I passed off a PE too...finally!

No Show :(

Well...my pt. didn't show up...there were actually four pts. who didn't show up this afternoon. Too bad for us. I have now had one pt. either not show up or cancle late the night before every week this semester. I really hope this doesn't keep happening.

Good Morning

This morning went really well. I finished my pt, which was good, but I missed a few spots I wish I hadn't. It's always nice to finish someone in one day though. Right now I'm just waiting for my afternoon pt. I really hope she shows up. If not, I guess I'll try calling some other people. I'll cross my fingers!

Good and Bad

Clinic last Tuesday was a mix of good and bad. The morning went great and I finished my patient. Everything seemed to go really smooth. Then the afternoon hit...I didn't even get to scaling my pt's. teeth. The HHX took me forever because there was so much to look up and we couldn't find one of the medications. There was just a lot of charting to do overall. I did take 3 PAs along with 4BWX so that was good. I was just frustrated that I didn't get any scaling done. Oh well. At least when I do finish up my pt. I'll get 3 quads of a 3 and 1 quad of a 4! Yea!

1st week of clinic and VA

My first week of clinic and the VA went really well! One of my clinic patients canceled the night before but luckily my dad was able to come in. I loved having him there! It was soooo much fun. I feel like things are coming back really fast. I was a little nervous at first, but not too bad. Things went great with all 4 of my patients this week! If every week is as good as this one was that would be great, but I'm sure I'll have plenty of challenges up ahead. It's nice to start out with a good week though!

One More Year!!!

I can't believe I only have one more year of school! It's flown by sooo fast! I'm really excited for this up coming year...but I'm also a little nervous for Boards. AHHH! All these years I've been wishing I had a photographic memory. It would be so much easier if I could learn new things quicker and also remember everything I've learned in the past. I found this cute blinkie that I thought was perfect!



Hopefully by the end of this year I'll be able to figure out how to get some film! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Clinic was fun today...nice and relaxing. We learned more about how to sharpen our instruments which was exactly what I needed. I feel a lot more comfortable with sharpening them now. It was also nice to probe and explore a little bit to refresh my memory...and hands. I think everything I learned last year will start coming back pretty fast. I hope so anyway!

Last Day!

It's sooooo weird that today was the last day of clinic! I can't believe it! Today was actually really smooth and relaxing, which I was greatful for. It was nice not having any requirements I had to worry about getting done today. I've had a really fun year! It's kind of sad that it's over. :( I hope next year goes as well as this one did! :)

Assisting

Well, today I'm just being the assistant. My pt. woke up sick this morning and had to cancle and I couldn't find anyone else who could come in on such short notice so I'm just helping everyone out. One more day of clinic! :)

Today was soooo smooth!

My pt. today had to be done by 2:30 and I walked her out at 2:25! :) I was so happy I was able to complete her in that amount of time! :) I'm so glad a 1B doesn't take two appointments anymore! It's a relief for me and my pts. I was also able to pass off two PEs. Now I only have one more! Yea!!! Hopefully I'll be able to pass that off on Wednesday! :) Today was great! Now I'm going to go study and take a test. We're almost done!!!!!!!!!!!!

Class 3!!!!!!!!!!!

Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm done with my class 3 requirements!!! Actually, I'm done with all my requirements now...I'm just trying to get more quads so I can get an A. I am so relieved. My patient was sooo cute too. She's a 78 year old lady and she's a really good at painting. She even gave me one of the cards she made. It's so neat that she's still able to do that. Today was great! :)

2 Kids

Yesterday two of my husbands cousins came in. It was so much fun!!! They're 4 and 8. They were sooo cute, and they both did great! They were really cooperative and made clinic a lot of fun! They thought it was so cool that the disclosing tablet turned their who mouth bright pink, but they were disappointed it didn't taste like candy. Everything went really well. It was great! :)

All Day

I was in clinic all day yesterday! It's defininetly going to take some getting used to next year! It went really well though. It was so much fun having my husband come in! I told him he should come in every day! :) That would be awesome! :) We just laughed the whole time...probably because he kept purposefully sticking his tongue in the way of my mirror. :) Hopefully my class 3 pt. is coming in next Wednesday. I'll be crossing my fingers!

3 PEs! :)

Today was great! My mother in-law came in and I was able to finish her off. I also passed off 3 PEs, so I only have three to go! :) Yea!!! I'm almost done! I've still had no luck finding a class 3, but I'm crossing my fingers! Maybe wednesday I'll have some good news!

Today was great!

I was originally planning on trying to pass off a few pe's today, but I didn't pass off any. :( Instead I took a full mouth set of x-rays, and I finished my pt. from start to finish. :) :) :) I was soooo glad I was able to get all of that done! Woo Hoo!!!!!!!! Now I just need to find time to pass off the rest of the pe's I need to do. I really should focus on doing at least one during each clinic from now on so I can finish quickly. I don't want to have to worry about them much longer. Oh yeah, I got my loopes yesterday!!!! I was able to use them for the first time today. It was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had two good days this week! On monday I was able to complete a 1B pt. and today I finished up a class 2. :) Yea! Things have been going great! I am worried about finding a class 3, but I'm sure it will end up working out. I'm starting to feel a lot more comfortable with things, but I still have a long way to go.

No show

Well my patient didn't show up on wednesday. I had an idea that he wouldn't so I talked to mother in law on tuesday to see if she could come in last minute if I needed her to. Luckily she could and everything ended up working out ok. I didn't get as much done as I wanted to, but oh well. I'm just glad she was able to come in! :) Hopefully this won't happen again any time soon.

Two 1A's

Yesterday I had two 1A pts. It was pretty crazy because they were 9 and 11 years old. Everyone was great though! They helped me out so much and cleaned up both units I was using while I was trying to do all the paper work. I'm just glad both of them were able to recieve the full treatment and didn't have to come back. It was really confusing trying the chart the mixed dentition, but it was a good learning experience and now hopefully I understand how it works. :) I hope my pt. shows up tomorrow. He's been sick, so hopefully he gets feeling better. I'm a little bit worried and I'm wondering if I should try to find a back up just in case. ???

Good Day!!!

Today was great! My mom was my patient, so that was way fun and sooo relaxing. I felt the most comfortable I have this whole time. I was able to pass off two PEs, and she was also my 1st 1B exam. It was great finally being able to finish someone in one appointment. Hopefully I can make a habit of doing that from now on...at least with 1Bs. :) Everything was just so smooth, it was great!

Class 2 Exam

Today I had my class 2 exam. It went pretty good, but I ended up missing a lot more spots than I thought I did. :( Oh well. I thought I had done really well and I explored and everything. At least I'm learning. I'm getting loupes, so hopefully they'll be here soon. Maybe that will help. :) I hope so... I'm excited for them. It's just too bad they're soooo expensive. I hope they're worth it!!!

AHHH!!!

Yesterday was a crazy and embarrassing day! I really don't even want to think about it anymore. To make a long story short, it turns out I saved the full mouth set of x-rays I took on my patient under another patient's name without realizing it. Thanks to help from Emily, Professor M, and Mr. Solaman I didn't have to retake them. They were able to find them! Yea!!! It was such a relief! I really don't want to think about it anymore though, so that's it for today.

Relaxing!

Clinic was so relaxing today! It was awesome! :) It really helped to be able to go over the ultrasonic handpiece, and the graceys again. I wish we could have done that before I had my class two patient, it would have really helped. While I was practicing with the graceys I realized I really probably should have been using them before, or at least trying to use them. They make scaling a lot easier, or at least it seamed like they did. At least now I'll know how to use them and the ultrasonic scaler better on my next class two pt.

Woo Hoo!!! :)

I finished my first class II pt. on monday! Yea! One quad was even a class three. I was so excited. I struggled with it because it was completely new, but now I kind of know what dealing with perio can be like. It was a really good learning experience, but I'm glad I'm done with it. Hopefully next time I'll feel a little bit more comfortable. :)

Full Day

Clinic went really well yesterday! I was there all day because I had to make up for a clinic that I missed a few weeks ago. I have now started treatment for my second class II patient, I finished another 1B patient, and I passed off two PEs. Yea! :) Yesterday was a much better, less stressful day than monday. I'm so exctited that it's thursday! This week flew by.

Class II

Clinic was a little bit crazy yesterday. It was my first class II pt. and I wasn't really sure what to do. I didn't really remember how to use the ultrasonic scaler and I wasn't used to removing subgingival calculus. It was a good experience even though I didn't get as much done as I wanted to and I felt lost at times. Better luck next time. At least now I have some experience of what it's like.

Smooth day in clinic

With everything going on last week I forgot to blog for wednesday's clinic. It was great! Everything went very smoothly. My patient had to leave 45 minutes early and I was still able to scale a quad! :) It was great! I'm going to finish up this wednesday. Being the CA wasn't too bad, there were only a few times I felt like I was running around crazy, so that was good. It feels great having 3 tests out of the way!

Spanish

Today I had my first Spanish speaking patient come in. It was so much fun and I was really excited. I don't really know why, because I know very very little spanish. It was a really good experience though. It was hard sometimes because I couldn't really move on with treatment without explaining something, so I would have to wait until someone else could talk to her more in depth. I never had to wait very long, but it just showed me how much communication plays a role in treating our patients. I felt like I forgot some things I normally wouldn't have because I was so focused on trying to communicate with her, but overall it went really well. She was great and very patient. She was probably just laughing about my spanish the whole time. :) I'll have to have my husband teach me more spanish words so I can be ready for her next appointment!

Yesterday I was able to finish up treatment for my brother, and I also got two PE's and some sealants done! It was a good day. :) I'm so glad it's the weekend! I don't have much planned, but the weekend is always nice. I wish I had more to say, but I'm drawing a blank...

I Finally finished a Patient!

Yea!!! I finished my pt. from last semester! :) There was a time for just a few seconds while I was scaling that I thought...what have I gotten myself into? It was taking me forever! I feel fine now though, and overall I think things went well. This sounds weird, but it was really rewarding when I saw the calculus chip off. That gave me a boost because I felt like I was actually doing some good. :) My pt. wednesday should go pretty smoothly, so I'm looking forward to that!

1st patient!

I had so much fun with my brother in clinic yesterday. He was a really easy pt. so that was nice. Everything went really well. The only time I was feeling stressed was when I only had a few minutes left and I was trying to finish a sealant. That got a little bit crazy. He's coming back next week so I can scale and finish up his treatment. I haven't actually finished a pt's treatment yet, but my brother in law is coming back in on monday (he was my first pt. last semester), so I'll have two done soon. Yea!!! :)

1st day back

It was kindof weird being back at school, but at the same time it wasn't. It was a pretty relaxing clinic day, so that was nice. It was fun to practice with the Ultrasonic and learn more about the Graceys, but I couldn't believe how many little things I had forgotten. It all came back pretty quick, so that was good. I'm excited for tomorrow...my little brother is coming in! :) Hopefully I can kind of remember how a real patient day is supposed to go. I'll just wait and see.
